Early schizophrenia intervention positively benefits functionality and reduces number of lifetime relapses

Professor Leslie Citrome sat down at ECNP 2022 to discuss how early intervention is critical for people with schizophrenia to minimise the number of lifetime relapses, lessen brain insult associated with a relapse and help return a person to functionality. He also discussed how patients should always be involved in treatment decisions including type of treatment and treatment delivery method. Motivational interviewing can help connect the link between life goals and medication adherence, even when a patient may not have insight into the nature of their delusions.
